Living in the area

The area surrounding Harper Adams has plenty on offer to keep you occupied, whether you fancy a cultural day out, an extreme shopping session or enjoying the night life that Shropshire and surrounding counties have to offer.

Transport
There is parking available for students on the university campus, so you can travel by car if you wish. The parking is divided up into zones so you will need to find out your designated zone from the university.
Shuttle buses also run from the campus to Newport during the mornings between 08:30 – 09:30, lunch time between 12:00 – 14:00 and in the evenings between 16:15 – 18:15. For more information on the services provided visit:

Local Shops
The local market town of Newport is a great place to go shopping, offering two supermarkets for the big weekly shops along with high street stores alongside smaller specialist family owned shops.
Also, just 10 miles away there is Telford Shopping Centre which boasts over 160 shops, restaurants and cafés including big name stores such as House of Fraser, HMV, Topshop, H&M and Debenhams.
Shropshire and surrounding counties feature a wide range of farm shops which are great for locally sourced items.

Nightlife

The Students’ Union Main Bar
This is the top venue for a Wednesday night out and the hub of Harper Adams nightlife, with a range of music which has seen Sara Cox to Pendulum and Katy B.

Newport
Supporting around 17 pubs, Newport offers something for every taste including big screen sports fixtures, cocktails or a quiet drink and a game of pool.

Lets go big!
Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Stafford have a wide variety of club nights and mainstream gig venues (such as the Wolves Civic or O2 Academy in Birmingham) that play host to many popular comedy and music events. If pubs and clubs aren’t your thing then there are plenty of other attractions on offer nearby, including the NEC and NIA in Birmingham for shows, two multi-screen cinemas’ in Telford and Shrewsbury and a wide variety of restaurants across the region to suit all tastes.

Student Union Events
Harper Adams holds four balls a year – Fresher’s, Winter, Paddy’s and the Summer Ball. They also host a number of other exciting events so it is worth checking out whats on offer regularly.
