Travelling to and from Northern Ireland is much easier and more economical than you may imagine. Most major British cities are within an hour’s flying time from Belfast’s two airports. Budget airlines fly frequently to London and other destinations at student-friendly fares. Ferries from Larne and Belfast connect with ports in Scotland and England and Ulsterbus operates cross-Channel express coach services. The Enterprise train service takes about two hours to Dublin.

Buses are regular into the center and are cheap and there is plenty of street parking and car parks.

Parking Permits

Parking is available in the town centre but some permits maybe needed in certain areas. For more information visit the council’s website under useful links.

Living in the area

With Queen’s Union a stone’s throw away, plenty of pubs, clubs and eateries are nearby and with the main shopping area just down the road, students are never very far away from all the action.

The Queen’s campus is close to the city’s famous Golden Mile of pubs, clubs, restaurants and entertainment venues. It should be easy to adapt to the pace of the place and you will soon relish the good-humoured ‘craic’ and cosmopolitan lifestyle for which the university area is renowned.

In and around the University area there are a number of pubs which double as clubs, one of the most popular being The Botanic Inn (aka The Bot). Further out, towards the city centre The Limelight and Stiff Kitten cater for more alternative tastes. The Odyssey Arena, Belfast’s very own entertainment complex is great for a special night out on the cheap however getting home can be expensive as some taxis will take advantage of the distance away from the University.
