The University is located in the town of Colchester. The Campus has excellent cycling routes and this is therefore a very easy and cheap mode of transport, especially for students. With these cycling routes, students who live in the Colchester and Wivenhoe area particularly benefit, as they run along Valley Road and Boundary Road.
The availability and the frequency of buses is excellent providing a range of buses that travel to the University both from the train station and the town centre.
From the train station the buses that travel via/to the University include Nos.61, 62, 74, 74B, 76 and 78.
From the town centre the buses that travel via/to the University include Nos.61, 62, 74, 74B, 76,78 and 78X.
Transport links from Colchester to the rest of the UK are also excellent both by train and air. The train station in Colchester runs a number of services to areas such as London and there is also a train station located in Wivenhoe where some services do stop but you do need to check particular routes for this.
The campus is located in the centre of Southend and therefore a number of the local bus services stop near the University campus. Southend has two main trains stations; Southend Central and Southend Victoria. Both lines travel to a number of destinations and with Southend Central opposite the campus it tends to be the most popular train station for students.
The closest airport is only 10 minutes way and is Southend airport, which flies to a number of cities across the world but you also have the benefit of the other London airports if you wish.
Parking and Permit Information:
Residential permits are available for purchase in Colchester at a price of £50.00 per annum. However restrictions are in place as you can only apply for one permit per household. If needed you can buy day permits for visitors to your property.
Living in Colchester
The nightlife in Colchester provides great variety with an array of pubs, clubs and bars to enjoy. The University itself has a range of great facilities, which students tend to enjoy throughout the week. There are three main social venues. Sub Zero is the university’s nightclub. It holds a number of special events and is open mainly on Friday and Saturdays, which tend to be popular nights for students. Furthermore, the university also has Level 2, the Main SU Bar and Top Bar. All three together have great atmospheres and all provide something different. The main SU Bar tends to show a number of sporting fixtures on a big screen where as Level 2 is mainly used as a location for special events in conjunction with Sub Zero. Of course, outside of the university there are some great nightclubs and bars as well. In Colchester the main clubs are Liquid and Route but there are plenty of other areas in Essex for students to explore.
The main shopping centre in Colchester is the Lion Walk Shopping centre, which is situated in the heart of the city. At this shopping centre you will find a great number of High Street names and in and around the city there are both some excellent independent stores and boutiques to explore.
