Average Rents

Rents range between £65 and £85 a week depending on location.

Aberystwth has an extensive local bus network. Mid Wales Transport operate the white park and ride buses to town and you can get one years membership for £65 with them. If not Arriva Buses Wales offer a an AHA student bus card for £280. AHA membership also gives 50% discount on the TransCambria network which goes to places such as Bangor, Caernarfon, Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff. Trains are two-hourly to Birmingham New Street, taking about three hours. A cheap day return is about £24 with a railcard, so you can be at London Euston in around 4.5 hours (if you miss it London trains are half-hourly so you won’t have to wait long). You can also change at Shrewsbury for services to Manchester and the north west.

Parking Permits

Car parking in the town centre on the street is in short supply. You are most likely to find space in the main car parks on Park Avenue. The most central car parks are mainly short stay, although charges are not too high. Several hotels provide parking spaces for residents.

Living in the area

Unfortunately, one of the downsides of living in Aberystwyth can be the lack of shopping when compared to a large city. However, all is not lost. Aberystwyth is actually surprisingly well-equipped for a small Welsh town, and can cater for just about everything you need. There are quite a few national chain shops, including Boots, Argos, Matalan, Peacocks, WH Smith, Officers Club, Burtons, Monsoon, Evans, Laura Ashely, New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, Waterstones, Poundland, Game etc, so there is enough here to get by, there is more than enough here to get by, although if you like your shopping your best bet is to hop on the train to Birmingham or the X40 bus to Swansea or Cardiff.
