Living in Sheffield
Sheffield has a secret reputation as the greenest city with its multitude of parks and surrounding countryside. It is a vibrant city offering a number of opportunities, is a friendly place for students to live and has been voted as one of the safest major cities in the UK.
Leeds and Manchester are in close distance to Sheffield and are only about one hours distance on the train and London is only 2 hours on the train so there are a variety of great cities surrounding Sheffield for you to visit if you fancy a change!
For sport, there is a range of top class facilities at the University For Sport. The Goodwin Sports Centre is central to the facilities including multi-purpose sports hall, cricket nets, state of the art fitness centre and a series of floodlit pitches and courts. However, if you are not a fitness fanatic or want to get involved at Sport at the university there are endless societies and clubs that you can get involved with.
Sheffield has an exceptional variety of clubs, bars and places to eat scattered across the city. Popular bars and clubs in Sheffield include the Forum, Embrace, DQ and the Plug. Most clubs in Sheffield offer cheap student nights throughout the week and there is an assortment of clubs and bars which all cater to a number of tastes. Sheffield has a number of venues which are popular for music gigs including The O2 Academy, The Stock Room and Sheffield City Hall. The Student Union website has a complete list of the club nights in Sheffield and so there is defiantly something in Sheffield that will appeal to everyone.
There are various shopping locations mainly in the city centre which host a variety of shops, from high street stores to individual boutiques. The best areas for shopping include Meadowhall which has over 270 shops, The Devonshire Quarter and Ecclesall Road.
