Average Rent:

Average rent for a room is around £84 a week. However this can vary significantly due to the quite high cost of living in Guildford.

The University is strategically placed in the South East of the UK close to a number of excellent transport links. The campus itself is very close to Guildford town centre and it is also just 40 minutes from the centre of London. It is therefore near a number of airports, which offer a great range of international and domestic flights from Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The Guildford train station is only a short distance from the town centre providing a great advantage for students wishing to use the exceptional rail connections. However if you arrive at the station and require bus services there are regular services, which tend to run around every ten minutes to the campus. The bus numbers are 17, 27 and 37.

Parking and Permit Information:

It is advisable for students not to bring cars due to the cost of permits and as there are excellent transport services students can travel around easily without the use of a car. However, if you wish to bring your car, you can apply for a residential parking permit if you do not have any off road parking near your property. Permits last for one year and cost £50.00 a year. If you require a second you will need to pay a further £80.00.

Living in Guildford:

The Student Union has an exceptional variety of social venues, facilities and events throughout the year and is therefore a very popular attraction for students to go and enjoy themselves. There are four separate facilities.
Chancellor’s, HRB and Roots are all bars but HRB and Roots are slightly smaller bars in comparison to Chancellor’s. Nevertheless, all provide a great night out as each one provides a different atmosphere and music. Lastly, Rubix, which is the university’s club charges an entry fee of £3.00. However, be prepared to pay extra for the themed nights and special events which are certainly worth it! You should not forget that the University also hosts a number of trips into London when transport is provided and you can enjoy some fantastic nights out at somewhere like The Ministry Of Sound.

Guildford offers shoppers an exceptional variety of stores and boutiques! The majority of shops are located around the High Street, North Street, Swan Lake, Market Street and Upper High Street. The shops don’t just comprise of High Street stores but quirky independent stores and boutiques in conjunction with a number of cafes and restaurants which are perfect for the daytime!! Along side this there are also two shopping centres in Guildford. These are the Friary Shopping Centre and Tunsgate Square Shopping Centre. Obviously, if you want to explore areas outside of Guildford there is a cluster of towns located around Surrey, not forgetting the capital of shopping in central London!
